In 2024 Baw Baw Shire Council’s Arts and Culture Advisory Committee (ACAC) applied for Council budget for an arts and culture grant program as a one-year trial. This program provides creative practitioners with funding to help them with creative projects, training or ideas. This initiative was successfully extended after positive feedback from our community.

Purpose

The Arts and Cultural Fund will strengthen the arts, enhance the Shire’s cultural life and reflect the importance of Council’s long-term vision for a ‘connected and cultural enriched community'.

Consideration will be given to whether the application: 

  • Contributes to the growth of creative enterprises, the local creative ecology and/or individual arts practices.
  • Contributes to the development of the local arts community.
  • Is feasible and achievable.
  • Provides opportunities for the community to experience and participate in the arts, and/or
  • Fosters partnerships and collaborations between local artists, residents and local community groups.

What you need to be eligible

  1. Be a resident of Baw Baw Shire looking to build their professional development in the creative industries, and/or a creative practitioner whose creative practice is primarily located in Baw Baw Shire, or an organisation or community group partnering with a Baw Baw Shire creative practitioner to develop a creative project that will boost the creative practitioner’s work and have broad benefit to the Baw Baw Shire community. 
  2. Have your project located and delivered within Baw Baw Shire.
  3. Comply with Victorian Child Safe Standards.
  4. Hold and maintain Public Liability Insurance that covers at least $20,000,000 (unless your project will not be 'in public' in any way).
  5. If you are under 18 years of age, you will need to have signed approval from a parent/guardian.

Applications for the 2025/2026 Arts & Culture Fund Round 2 will close 5:00pm AEST Sunday 8th February 2026.

Late applications will not be eligible.

Who can't apply?

Applicants who fall into the following categories will be deemed ineligible to receive funding.

  1. Any individual or organisation with outstanding debts with Baw Baw Shire (please note that this includes pending grant acquittals).
  2. For-profit organisations whose primary business is not within the creative industries.
  3. For-profit organisations that promote gambling, tobacco, vaping, mining or alcohol.
  4. Commercial enterprises who will make a profit from the use of the creative practitioner(s) involved in their project.
  5. Government departments, agencies, authorities and organisations.
  6. Any individual who is a staff member or Councillor of Baw Baw Shire.

We are looking for applications that can achieve one or more of the following goals: - Helps to grow creative projects in the community, adds value to the local creative community and/or to own individual work, - Helps to develop the local arts community, - Gives the wider community the chance to experience and/or participate in the arts, - Creates opportunities for creatives to work together with other local creatives, residents and local community groups on projects.
Tell us how you are going to make your project happen. A great things to add is a timeline and/or a document showing the tasks you need to complete and how long they will take (you can attach this in the attachments section of this form). Have a clear idea of your project and explain it so that anyone will understand what it is. Make sure it is not too ambitious; you must show us that you can realistically make it happen.
